I recently discovered a what seemed to have been an excellent Doctorial program. Specifically the program was located at Dakota State University, the Doctorate of science Information Systems. In ranking the institution by cost I found it to be the best value by far. Well when following up with DSU, the tuition posted wad grossly inaccurate by more than $10,000. Consequently, I wondering if anyone has experienced similar findings and want would cause such a discrepancy? The school had largely been unable to account for the substantial difference.

Hi USP,

Is the online doctorate you are looking at this one then:
www.geteducated.com/profiles/show/online-degrees/dakota-state-university/school-of-information-systems-graduate/211/1554/doctor-of-science-in-information-systems

Dakota State University -- Online Doctorate of Science in Information Sciences

If so, below is the basic data on cost for that Phd degree (2012):

Get Educated.com Degree Profile Data =

Credits:
61 minimum - 88 maximum (Semester Credits)

Tuition:
State Residents: $ 368.00 per semester credit
Out of State: $ 368.00 per semester credit

Total Cost of Degree:
$22,448.00 - $32,384.00

What is the cost data that you are looking at that is different?

The above is based on 2102 rates -- you may be seeing 2013 rates now at the school which could make a difference.

OR -- Notice too that there is a $10,000 difference in estimated cost for this degree based on if you enter with a masters or not == that is tied to the range of credits required from 61 to 88.

Get Educated does not formally rank online doctorates on cost bcs of the wide variation in credits/costs depending on if one has a master's at entry and /or thesis and dissertation fees but you can hit the sort function for any degree search and get the system to order from highest to lowest.

If you do that the system will give the default LOWEST tuition -- in this case $22,448. That cost is the lowest possible cost if you only need the minimum of 61 credits as you see on the profile. If you need the higher 81 credits you will pay the higher rate per the profile data of $32,384.

Since this is about a $10,000 difference it may be the difference you are talking about.

All the best
Vicky
