If an online school claims to be nationally accredited AND regionally accredited at the same time, is this a school to avoid? My gut instinct tells me I should.

Hi Culcru,

Actually ... It is possible for a real online school to be BOTH regionally and nationally accredited.

I can think of one example of this off the top of my head. Western Governors University Online, which was founded about a decade ago, started out with national accreditation from the DETC (Distance Education and Training Council) and then, as it gained traction, applied for and was granted accreditation from a regional agency, the North Central Association. I think WGU still has both types of accreditation.

Which online school are you asking about or thinking of?
If you tell us the name we can comment on that particular online school for you.

All the best
