This is a fantastic article. Everything you've said is so true. A little repositioning of the same words that one uses, can go a long way in changing the way one is interpreted, from rude or sarcastic to courteous and polite. Every tip you have given is so helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Great article Vicky. Online learning has its many challenges, especially for moms and dads. Sometimes, in spite of the inclination and determination, some are unable to keep up with the pace or even not able to figure out an effective strategy for successful learning. The points given by you are very apt and helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for dropping by. I admire your journey to use MOOCs and free open education resources (OER) to self-study your way through the science portion of your A-Levels. That's a great way to prep yourself for that national exam without having to pay for tutors and courses and so on.

In the US there are of course likewise lots of great free online courses but a battle as to letting students use what they learn on their own for degree credit. Here we have a council -- ACE -- that will review what they call "non-collegiate" education for degree credit equivalency. That's been going on for 50 years -- but as I said that process needs a re-conceptualization if consumers here are going to be able to benefit.

Keep us posted on your self-study and how you do on the A-levels!

Pretty much hit the nail on the head, but I wouldn't want the current fuss over MOOCs to put people off.

I am currently teaching myself using a mixture of methods and media, as there are no current collection of MOOCs that fit the standard I am aiming for (UK A-level).

I feel as long as there is a continued push for open education resources, then people will be able to access a much more affordable type of learning. The accreditation issue, however, urgently needs to be solved.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for commenting. It's true that online courses make it much easier to manage jobs, kids, careers and education. But it's always a challenge to adjust and learn how to study at home. Creating study space and time is something we all have to learn to do to help structure our learning and succeed. Are you studying online now? Have any additional tips?

Hi Heather,

We don't yet have a top online degree list specific to online edtech master's for corp training or higher education. Some of the programs on this list have majors or concentrations in adult learning, training or higher education.

One great example for this major would be Boise State University Online Master's in Instructional and Performance Technology:

http://www.geteducated.com/profiles/show/online-degrees/boise-state-university/school-of-instructional-and-performance-technology---graduate/25/674/master-of-science-in-instructional-performance-technology

You can also do a master online degree search under online education degrees: http://www.geteducated.com/profiles/search/Education%20%26%20Teaching&SS=Search%20by%20Subject%20%3E%20Education%20%26%20Teaching

Once you do the above search look to the FILTERS on your LEFT and CHOOSE a MAJOR. For you this might be adult education, training and development, instructional technology and educational technology.
