For Cecilia Parmar, an online Masters degree is a “practical” solution to cramming a quality education into an already full life. The working mother is a winner of the Fall 2010 GetEducated and Core 4 Women $1,000 online college scholarship.
Parmar, 42, works as an Administrative Assistant in Monroe Township, New Jersey, while pursuing her second online Masters degree, this one in Library and Information Science. She is fascinated by archival studies, but with constant changes in her work schedule and her daughter’s school schedule, she feared traditional on-campus classes would interrupt the balance in her lifestyle.
She explains, “When I decided that I wanted to be a librarian, I knew that I could not move to attend graduate school. My family, work and responsibilities lay firmly where I live. Therefore, I thought my choices of study were very limited with only two schools within a two hour drive of my home in central New Jersey.”

A special online education statistics infographic from the Chronicle of Higher Education (November 2011) reveals that online learning continues to grow. Er, wait, the tern "grow" may be an understatement. Gobbling steroids with two-fisted gusto may be more like it. In the last decade, online-only course enrollments in higher education climbed from .78 million to a possible 3.97 million in 2014 (projections from Eduventures). Moreover, community college surveys cited by the special report indicate that many high education insiders report that their institutions remain largely unable to meet swelling student demand for online courses.{{ad46}} |

The University of Newcastle, an online college diploma mill that was recently closed in the UK, has opened a new website which cites operations in the United States: Chicago and Washington, D.C.
 Established in October of 2006 and operated out of a pub in Manchester, UK, this unaccredited university provided phony diplomas to 1,797 students—netting almost 2 million pounds (equivalent to a little over $3 million), according to a recent report in the London Times. Eight students who received these phony degrees have been arrested for alleged connections to Al-Qaeda, the Times reported.
Over the last four years, the University of Newcastle claimed distance degree operations in Ireland, the UK, and the South Pacific.
Facing prosecution in Britain, the degree mill recently moved its primary address to the U.S., citing Washington, D.C. as its chief center of operation. {{LeftSponsor53}}
