Online College Financial Aid  >  Cutting Online Degrees Cost
By GetEducated.com Consumer Reporting Team

Average cost of a college textbook: $150.
Ouch!
Enroll for two online courses, each requiring one textbook, and you’re instantly out $300. Take thirty online courses to earn your associate degree and watch your bank account dwindle by $4,500. And if you're taking courses in specialty areas, such as accounting, count on spending even more.
Taking steps to slash your college textbook costs can literally cut thousands off the total cost of your online education. Unlike a decade ago, students today have multiple options for getting college textbooks online, including the option of downloading some free textbooks or frequenting cheap online shopping sites.

GetEducated's editors went shopping online to find the best free and cheap online textbook deals.

Are There Ivy League, Top Ranked MBAs Online?
Expert Advice  >  Online MBA
By Vicky Phillips, Chief Education Analyst

Question:

Are there any top-ranked online MBA degree programs in the USA?

I travel for a living. I’d like to earn my MBA online because it’s virtually impossible for me to be in town attending class every week for 16 consecutive weeks.

But I’m afraid employers won’t accept a distance degree.

I work as an executive in a competitive career field: healthcare.

I’ll be working in a major metropolitan area (NYC) for the rest of my career and eventually want to open my own business.

Can you recommend even one top business school that offers a distance MBA degree?

—Joan Lundlin

Rochester, New York

Answer:

We can do better than just one suggestion. The Ivy League has gone Cyber League, and several top business schools offer distance or online MBA degrees these days.

Bachelor of Science in Interpreter Training

Megan McConnell, 17, of Montgomery, AL, earned her scholarship as a high school student taking online college courses through Troy University's "Accelerate" dual enrollment program.

She is working toward her bachelor's degree in interpreter training at Troy, in hopes of becoming a sign language interpreter for deaf schoolchildren. She also would like to start a deaf ministry at her church.

For Megan, earning her degree will mean more than job security. "The main reason I want a degree," she says, "is so I can help others and serve them."
