Human Resource Executive Online discusses the growing employer acceptance of online college degrees with online education expert Vicky Phillips.

The stigma is largely gone from distance learning, say HR professionals quoted in the Human Resource Executive Online article. The online magazine cites GetEducated.com as an expert source of information about online education:

In 2000, GetEducated.com found that about eight in 10 (79 percent) corporate managers rated a distance degree "as good as" a residential option. Fewer than half of the corporate managers felt that way in 1989...

In addition, says GetEducated.com spokesperson Vicky Phillips: "We've found two specific instances when job seekers are most likely to encounter a stigma against online education by employers—when the online college is 300 miles or more from where they live and if the college doesn't have a campus."
