Online Schools Pick Up Students—and Respect
September 4, 2009

CNBC reports that the recession has resulted in a "growing importance" for online education, as well as growing employer acceptance. CNBC cites GetEducated.com statistics on the fact that accredited distance learning can produce healthy cost savings for university students, helping them shop for the most affordable online degree.

According to Vicky Philips, founder of GetEducated.com, a website that publishes online university degree rankings, distance degree programs usually cost as much as regular classroom programs. What lures many into taking courses online is it allows students to compare tuition and opt for more affordable online degree programs without leaving home.

“It’s the first time they (college students) can chop on cost and shop for education,” Philips says.
